| You join
an organization which is dedicated to providing peer support to Association members,
serving the local and charitable needs of our community, and promoting outreach seminars
to peace officers and firefighters, and to prospective members of both of the
professions. GSPOA supports regular, reserve and retired members of
the law enforcement and firefighting professions. The GSPOA provides a forum
for members to meet regularly with other law enforcement and fire fighters to share in
their personal knowledge and experience. Members enjoy the camaraderie of other
peace officers and firefighters during Association sponsored programs and events.
By joining the GSPOA, you are becoming a
member of an Association of concerned professionals dedicated to benefiting the
educational, charitable, and civic enhancement of our community. |

In
1979, a group of San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs and Police Officers began
meeting at a yearly retreat at the Russian River. The event started as a party and
grew into an informal group affectionately known as Pigs in Paradise. As the group
grew in numbers, the need for a more structured, statewide professional peace officers
Association became apparent.
In August of 1985, the Golden State Peace Officers
Association was incorporated from the group of friends that had been Pigs in Paradise.
In July of 1993, a group of police officers and firefighters from Southern California received recognition from the GSPOA Board of Directors
as the new Southern Division of the Association. In 1997, the Southern Division
opened a chapter to serve the San Diego area.
Since its start, over 400 men and women from
both the law enforcement and firefighting professions throughout California have joined
the Association and work to make its professional, social and charitable events
successful. |
